| In 1998, Cornerstone, a non profit dedicated to the preservation of historic properties, hired three artists, Frances McDonald, Jas Milam and Dorothy Stubsten to facilitate a mural on the Central Block building in downtown Chattanooga. Their aim was to bring attention to their cause and to sell the building. The artists decided on a parade theme for the 2000 square feet of construction boards protecting the lower part of the building. The parade theme, celebrating Central Block's history since 1883, consisted of 130 self portraits of artists aged 8 to 12 years old in period starting from the left in 1883 up to present day. With the help of thirty adult volunteers, the entire project took six days on a budget of $1800. When the building sold in 2002, the now beloved artwork was moved to the North River YMCA. |
