AQUARIUM FISH MURAL
The Tennessee Aquarium started construction in the spring of 2003 on a new building that would house its
new salt water tanks.  Construction necessitates construction boards, and Frances was asked to facilitate
the muralling of these 300 running feet of boards.  The first 24 running feet (192 square feet) were a beach
scene painted by Normal Park Museum Magnet School in after school sessions at the school.  Some three
weeks later,  the remaining 276 running feet were painted on site at the Aquarium Plaza in three afternoon
sessions, each by artists from these schools:  Chattanooga Middle Museum Magnet School, Chattanooga
School for the Arts and Sciences and Battle Academy.  Sixty artists (between 3rd and 8th grade)  total
participated; their artwork will be viewed by at least one million tourists per year until the end of
construction in 2005!
This beach section, painted by Normal Park students was used as a backdrop for the ground
breaking ceremony.
