| The Chattanooga Choo Choo welcomes over one million visitors every year. Across the street from this major attraction was an area of blight. Several buildings are for sale and had become a safe haven for citizens who need help. Another opportunity for urban beautification. Frances McDonald received permits from owners of three buildings, put up construction boards and muralled their surfaces with train images. Two schools, neighboring Battle Academy and Eastlake Academy sent teams of fifth, sixth and seventh graders over a two week period working daily after school. About 35 artists painted 30 hours to complete 150 running feet, 1200 square feet.. Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga sponsored this mural with money raised through private donations. |
